Belle's Book Club: The Temperance Brennan Series...

Hey everyone

Finally in the last of my Belle's Book Club: Summer 2013 series I'm sharing my favourite books that I have read this summer - The Temperance Brennan Series by Kathy Reichs

My Thoughts

So way back when at the start of the summer I picked up the first novel in the Temperance Brennan Series from Kathy Reichs after discovering her through the {Virals} series (which I really enjoyed by the way - here's my reviews of books {1} {2} & {3} in that series if you're interested :P) and I am so glad that I gave it a chance because it has become one of my favourite series of books I've ever read - over the whole summer I've read the first 10 books in the series and can honestly say that I loved every single one of them!

I'm a massive fan of crime novels and seeing that the protagonist in this series (Tempe) is an anthropologist which is lab work and I work in a lab - I just love reading about scientists, okay?!

Anyway - what I loved most about this series was the fact that the plot lines were loosely based on the experiences of Kathy Reichs herself seeing as she's an anthropologist - this meant that the science-y bit in the books were all on point, correct and well explained - and done so in a way that didn't make me feel stupid for not knowing what she was going on about because she used the other characters needing explanation from Tempe to explain things - it was very cleverly done.

Of course the most important thing in crime novels to me is the plot - if the plot doesn't a) keep me engaged and guessing throughout b) sound realistic or c) have twists that make me literally gasp in shock then I wont be a fan - luckily all of the books in this series do! Every single one of the books have crazy complicated plot lines (don't worry they are easy to follow!) with lost of weaving in of intricate details that all of a sudden fall into place when the crime is solved - serious writing skills!

Character-wise the main consistent ones throughout the series are Tempe and Ryan - and boy, do I ship them! I just love them together! I think they are utterly perfect for each other, Ryan is such a cutie in the way that he protects Tempe (although he does have a slight hang up about reminding her to eat - seriously what is the obsession with making male characters ensure that the female characters eat, first Edward then Christian and now Ryan!) and Tempe's actually really beneficial to Ryan's work - they're just really really great together - and Ryan sounds beyond hot too which doesn't hurt :P

I have loved getting sucked into this series of books - they were so engaging and really interesting to read - I really liked how each book was completely different - I thought after 10 books the plot lines were going to get a bit similar but they haven't - they've all been really fresh, unique and original. I've essentially read the series back to back which shows just how interesting the books were and hooked I became - in fact, I'm going to be moving on to the next book in the series tomorrow for sure!

I'd definitely recommend these books if you're looking for a new crimes series to get sucked into - yes they are a tad gory in parts but they are crime novels about murders so that is expected and there are definitely adult themes in there and plot lines that may be disturbing to some so just be a tad wary - but having said that I think it was very clever of Reichs to write each book so that they can all be read as stand alone novels or as part of the series, so if you don't fancy reading one book because the plot line sounds a bit nasty you can always skip it and move on to the next without the fear of not understanding what is going on!

Would you read this book?

As a little end-note I just wanted to say that that's that for my Belle's Book Club Summer 2013 series - my goal at the start of the summer was to review every book I read, I ended up reading about 30 books and I managed to review about 25 of them so I'm quite proud of myself! I found the act of reviewing each book really helped me to understand what I like in a novel and what I'm not so keen on - great for deciding what books to read in the future!

I've stumbled across some real gems of books this summer - my favourites being the Temperance Brennan series (of course, that's why I saved it for my final review!) and {Ransom My Heart} and the {Birthmarked} {Prized} {Promised} Trilogy!

What was your favourite book you read this summer?

If you enjoyed this series please let me know in the comments - I'd love for some feedback on it if it helped you in discovering new books!
