Belle's Book Club: Code...

Hey everyone

Next up in my Belle's Book Club: Summer 2013 series I'm sharing - Code by Kathy Reichs

{via}

Synopsis (via Goodreads

The Virals are put to the ultimate test when they find a geocache containing an ornate puzzle box. Shelton decodes the cipher inside, only to find more tantalizing clues left by "The Gamemaster." A second, greater geocache is within reach—if the Virals are up to the challenge.

But the hunt takes a dark turn when Tory locates the other box—a fake bomb, along with a sinister proposal from The Gamemaster. Now, the real game has begun: another bomb is out there—a real one—and the clock is ticking.

My Thoughts

I'm a big fan of The Virals series - read my reviews on the first two books in this series {here} and {here} - and this instalment didn't disappoint! I don't know if it's just me but if I find a great series I'm always expecting the next instalment to go down hill - statistically it shouldn't be able to get better but some series do - and rest assured The Virals is one of them!

I definitely thought that this book was the most dark of the series so far - there was a definite constant threat of real danger in this one compared to previous books in which the danger was only in sprinklings.

I was thoroughly engaged with the plot all of the way through - I was trying to figure out who/what was going on with 'The Gamemaster' and couldn't for the life of me! I thought the idea for the plot was seriously great - really original and novel - I've never read anything like it before! The idea of having a geocache player that was blowing things up is just crazy - like a really insane treasure hunt! To me it sounded just like a video game!

The only issue I have with this book is the fact that it was just a tad unbelievable - I mean, how realistic is it that a group of teenagers will fall in with a geochache player with a penchant for blowing things up and then just manage to sort everything out and solving the mystery. Though, thinking about it now - I'm not sure why I have an issue with that aspect of the story when I've readily accept the fact that the group has canine DNA in them!

I enjoyed learning more about the characters - I'm a big fan of all of them. I'm glad that Tory eventually stood up to the 'mean girls' but I hate that Jason is still on the scene - something about that guy just irks me! Though what annoys me the most is the massive plot twist that happened with Ben - he was my favourite as well but now he has gone waay down in my estimations - how he could just turn like he did completely threw me - what a double agent! It was great writing though because I did not see it coming at all!

All in all I really enjoyed reading this book - I flew through it as I have done with the other Virals books - it just sucks that I am all up date with the series now so I have to wait for aeons for the next book!

Would you read this book?

aHm xoxo
