Book Club Friday: Amy & Roger's Epic Detour...

Hey everyone

Thanks to Blonde...Undercover Blonde for this link up :)

This week I'm sharing - Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

Synopsis (via GoodReads
Amy Curry thinks her life sucks. Her mom decides to move from California to Connecticut to start anew--just in time for Amy's senior year. Her dad recently died in a car accident. So Amy embarks on a road trip to escape from it all, driving cross-country from the home she's always known toward her new life. Joining Amy on the road trip is Roger, the son of Amy's mother's old friend. Amy hasn't seen him in years, and she is less than thrilled to be driving across the country with a guy she barely knows. So she's surprised to find that she is developing a crush on him. At the same time, she's coming to terms with her father's death and how to put her own life back together after the accident. Told in traditional narrative as well as scraps from the road--diner napkins, motel receipts, postcards--this is the story of one girl's journey to find herself

My Thoughts
This is one my absolute favourite books to read in the summer! I picked it up last summer on a whim - mainly because the cover is insanely awesome!! This book is just amazing - it's my dream to roadtrip around America so I get to live this vicariously through Amy & Roger. The interwoven stories about why Amy wont drive and what's going on with Roger and Hadley are seamlessly integrated with the documentation of their roadtrip. The characterisation is great - I felt like I could really understand what was going on with Amy and what she was experiencing. Inevitably fell in love with Roger as the book went on! I loved how the book was presented as kind of like a travel scrapbook thing so it made the story seem a lot more authentic by including photos, receipts, playlists etc. - very original.

Overall I would highly recommend this book as an easy summer read (I for one know I will be reading it again at least once this summer!) and one that will make you want to jump in your car and take a roadtrip yourself. Amazingly written - just the right amount of description without seeming too fantastical. Awesome. I honestly don't think I can put across how much I LOVE this book!!

Would you read this book?
